Creative industries such as advertising, design, publishing, film, television, radio and music account for more than 7 per cent of the world's gross domestic product. Communication across these industries is undergoing changes because of technological innovations, combined with convergence and integration across different platforms. An integral part of successful communication is planning the strategy, visualization and execution across media appealing to targeted audiences. This course equips students to develop content in different creative fields.
To those of you interested in developing exciting rich media content and communication campaigns, the programme of Communication Design is the answer. It offers you a wealth of opportunities to develop your creative and aesthetic communication abilities to create visual design content for print, web, and moving media formats like animation, graphics and film.
This programme provides the students with an in depth study in visualization, appropriate skill development, experimentation, and several opportunities for in depth exploration. Grounded in communication theory, the students will be introduced to historical, social and cultural contexts of design and problem-solving. Through time, the students will develop professional skills in Communication Design like drawing, visualization, execution, research, problem solving, brief writing, content development and promotion.
After a rigorous beginning, students will be encouraged to become increasingly independent and self reliant. Tutors will become guides and then facilitators and mentors. The students will be able to cognitively plan, evolve and develop communication strategies to solve complex communication problems with consideration to market influencers and audiences. The students will gradually branch out and through sequential project work will learn more about themselves, their abilities and interests and choose a generalist pathway from visual communication or advertising, or a specialist pathway like moving graphics and animation, film making, photography or experience design.
During the programme, a mandatory internship will provide the students with necessary professional exposure. There will also be an opportunity to study overseas or in India under a student exchange scheme with full credit for the merit achieved. If a student does not opt for this, he or she could continue to pursue his or her area of interest at the academy itself.
The availability of options at Chennai is dependent upon sufficient numbers of enrolment.
